The England Deaf Karting Association (EDKA) has developed over more than two decades from a single moment of inspiration into a structured, nationally recognised organisation supporting deaf participation in motorsport across the United Kingdom. Its story is one of community-driven growth, resilience, and continuous improvement, shaped by volunteers, drivers, and leaders committed to creating equal opportunity in karting for deaf people.
Our historyAbout us
Leading Deaf Karting Since 2004.

Our goal is simple: to create a place where everyone can race, learn, and belong.
Across England, EDKA welcomes drivers of all ages and experience levels. We create a supportive environment where communication barriers are removed and replaced with teamwork, understanding, and a shared love of racing. Here, success is not defined by limitations, but by effort, skill, and improvement.
EDKA was founded on a simple belief: motorsport should be for everyone. We are committed to making karting accessible and inclusive so that every person can experience the excitement of racing, the challenge of competition, and the pride of achievement.
From complete beginners to experienced racers, EDKA provides a clear pathway to grow. We offer training, coaching, race events, and community meet-ups to help drivers build confidence, improve skills, and develop race experience.
But EDKA is not only about racing. It is about people. Every event helps build friendships, trust, and a strong sense of belonging. We celebrate every achievement, whether it is a first lap, a personal best, or a race win.
Karting also helps people in many ways outside of racing. It builds focus, discipline, confidence, and resilience. It teaches drivers how to stay calm under pressure and how to keep improving step by step.
At EDKA, we stand for inclusion, accessibility, respect, teamwork, confidence, personal development, passion for motorsport, and a strong community. We believe everyone deserves the chance to take part and feel included.
We are proud to support deaf and hard of hearing racers across England. Our goal is not only to race, but to inspire others and show that talent is what matters most.
Looking to the future, EDKA is growing. We want to create more opportunities for drivers both on and off the track. This includes building partnerships with organisations, teams, and sponsors who support inclusion and accessibility.
We also want to introduce more awards and recognition for drivers at all levels, so every achievement is celebrated.
We are focused on encouraging more young people and more women into karting, making the sport more diverse and welcoming for everyone. We also want to reduce financial barriers by working with sponsors and supporters to help make racing more affordable.
We plan to grow community events such as family and children’s fun days, giving more people the chance to experience karting in a safe and friendly environment.
Our goal is simple: to create a place where everyone can race, learn, and belong.
We also care about mental health and wellbeing. Karting helps people reduce stress, build confidence, and feel part of a positive community. It gives structure, focus, and a sense of achievement.
Each lap helps drivers learn patience, discipline, and control. For many people, the track becomes a place where they feel supported and confident.
EDKA is also developing the England Deaf Karting Team. This team will represent England in international competitions such as the European Nations Deaf Karting Championship.
Drivers will be selected through training, performance, and race events. Those chosen will represent their country and gain the chance to compete at a higher level.
This pathway gives drivers something to aim for and helps them grow in skill, confidence, and experience.
EDKA prepares drivers not just to race, but to succeed with confidence on and off the track.
