Interim Leadership and European Withdrawal

2016

Carlo Hunter stepped down from his position as temporary chairperson. Following this, Christopher Heppenstall returned to the role of chairperson on an interim basis, as the organisation continued its search for a permanent successor.

Despite the leadership transition, the organisation continued to operate and delivered two domestic events during the year. The Winter Open was hosted at Formula Fast in Milton Keynes, while the English Open was held at Rye House. However, both events experienced reduced attendance, with lower participation numbers compared to previous years. The lack of turnout reflected a quieter period for the organisation, with reduced engagement across the driver base and limited overall momentum within the championship calendar.

The lower participation levels also impacted the atmosphere and competitiveness of both events, with smaller grids affecting the overall racing structure. As a result, the organisation faced challenges in maintaining the same standard of event delivery that had been achieved in earlier years.

After reviewing team readiness and overall performance levels, it was decided that England would not enter the European Deaf Karting Association Championship that year. The decision was made due to concerns that the team was not sufficiently prepared or strong enough to compete at an international level, particularly following inconsistent results and reduced participation. This marked a significant moment, as it was the first time in several years that England did not compete at the European level.

Although no European campaign took place, efforts continued within the organisation to maintain structure and stability. Focus was placed on sustaining domestic activity, rebuilding confidence within the driver base, and reviewing how participation, organisation, and performance could be improved for future seasons. Discussions also centred around long-term direction, including leadership stability and the need to strengthen engagement at the grassroots level.

The year was widely viewed as a transitional period for EDKA, with the organisation operating at a reduced capacity while working through leadership changes, participation challenges, and preparation for future rebuilding.
